President — Jill Rolston-Yates
Jill Rolston-Yates has taught EFL in Japan, ESL in Intensive English Programs at University of Hawaii and Texas State, San Marcos, and ESL to immigrants and refugees in Adult Schools and the Cambodian Family Literacy Program in Southern California. She has also authored two English Conversation texts, Genbai no Eikaiwa, 1 & 2, with GEOS publications, Japan. She holds a BA from Whitman College in Psychology and Theater, an MFA from the University of Hawaii in Asian Theater, and an Adult Education Credential in ESL from the University of California, Los Angeles. She currently teaches ESL at Texas Intensive English Program.

Linda Muņoz, PhD, has taught ESL for 25 years to international students in university intensive English programs and to refugees and immigrants in adult literacy/community education programs. Currently, she is Senior Program Director of Adult and Developmental Education at the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.

Secretary — Rosario Davis
Rosario Davis is a learning specialist at Texas State University’s intensive English program. Her duties include program coordination and teaching ESL courses. Rosario holds a BA in English from Texas A&M University, MA in English from St. Mary’s University, secondary teaching certification from Texas A&M International University,and TESL certification from Western Washington University.She has also taught ESL in Baku Azerbaijan and in Washington state at Skagit Valley College.

Treasurer — Glenda Lynn Rose
Dr. Glenda Lynn Rose began teaching ESL in 1987. She holds her master’s in Linguistics (emphasis and graduate certificate in TESOL), and herdoctorate from the University of Texas at Austin in Foreign Language Education (emphasis in Applied Linguistics). She currently teaches for Austin Learning Academy and consults for the Central GREAT Center, conducting research and assisting with professional development sessions. She actively engages her students in sociopolitical activities such as the Literacy Day at the Capitol, MLK march, and writing to elected officials to express concerns. As Advocacy Chair, she hopes to help ESL teachers stay abreast of legislation that affects our field and organize participation in advocacy activities when appropriate.

Membership Chair — Mark Burrow
Born in Houston, Texas, and now living in San Marcos, Texas, Mark Burrow works closely with ESL teachers and students on a daily basis. He serves as Program Staff at the Texas State Intensive English Program (TSIE) at Texas State University-San Marcos and is also currently enrolled in the Foreign Language Education (FLE) Master's Program at the University of Texas at Austin. His interest in serving as Membership Chair stems from his strong background of computer systems and database management as well as his familiarity with the ESL field.

Public Relations/Marketing Chair — Amanda Sekour
Amanda Sekour has an MA in Applied English Linguistics from the University of Houston and a BA in French and International Studies from Baylor University. She is bilingual in English and French. Prior to teaching ESL, she worked as an international student advisor and NAFSA member. She currently teaches Intensive English at the Texas International Education Consortium in Austin, Texas.

Julia Maffei has been an ESOL adult educator for 17 years and currently teaches at Austin Community College and Interfaith Action of Central Texas. She holds an MA in foreign language education from the University of Texas.

Delegates-at-Large, Elementary Education/Bilingual Education — Alma Valdez and Stella Medina
Alma Valdez, Elementary Schools Coordinator for Austin ISD, holds a Bachelor of Science-Cum Laude, and a Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Texas. She received her Mid Management Administration Certification from Southwest Texas State University. She has worked with the Austin ISD as a bilingual teacher, Dual Language Resource Teacher, Assistant Principal and Summer School Principal. Alma has served as president of AAABE (Austin Area Association for Bilingual Education) and has also served as the TABE (Texas Association for Bilingual Education) Constitution Chair. Most recently Alma chaired the NABE (National Association for Bilingual Education) 2009 Exhibits Committee. Alma has served in various AISD committees such as the Spanish Reading Task Force, the Bilingual Assessment Committee, and the Hispanic Heritage Committee. She also served in various panels such as the TEXTESOL State Convention: The Classroom Teacher as a Bilingual Education/ESL Trainer. She is married and has three beautiful daughters.
Stella Medina is an Elementary Instructional Coordinator with the Bilingual Education/ESL Department of Austin Independent School District. She holds both an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education with a specialization in Reading and a graduate degree in Curriculum and Instruction emphasizing Bilingual Education from the University of Texas. Additionally, she holds certifications in both Mid-management and Gifted and Talented Supplemental. Prior to her employment with Austin ISD, Ms. Medina served as a consultant with the Texas Education Agency for 19 years where she held administrative positions in the Divisions of Student Assessment, Accountability and Evaluation, and served as Director of Programs for Bilingual Education/ESL. As a presenter at conferences throughout the United States, she engaged in professional development on topics related to Bilingual Education/ESL. She has authored several articles related to Bilingual Education and co-authored in collaboration with Region XIX Primeros Pasos, an elementary reading program for English language learners. Ms. Medina began her career in education as an elementary teacher with the El Paso and Gadsden Independent School Districts. She also served as a lead trainer for eight years in language arts, mathematics, and science throughout Texas and New Mexico. She resides in Austin, Texas, and is the parent of two sons, both university graduates. She is also the proud grandparent of nine beautiful grandchildren.

Delegate-at-Large, Secondary Education — Vanessa Hinojosa and Harishini Ernest
Vanessa Hinojosa holds an MA in Foreign Language Education and a BA in Spanish Language Teaching from The University of Texas at Austin. In her six years as a language instructor, she has taught Spanish I, Spanish for Native Speakers I/II, ESOL I/II, and Sheltered English III. Currently, she is the ESL Campus Coordinator and Lead ESOL teacher at Lake Travis High School, where she works closely with students, teachers, and administrators to ensure the academic success of English language learners.
Harishini Ernest has a PhD in Applied Linguistics from the University of Texas at Austin. She has taught K-12, community college, and university levels, and has been involved in educational consulting, program evaluation, administration, and teaching since 1984. Professionally, she is an ESL Coordinator with Austin ISD where her responsibilities include teaching, teacher mentoring, and curriculum development.

Delegate-at-Large, Adult Education — Denise Guckert
Denise Guckert earned her MA from the University of Texas at Austin Foreign Language Education Center in 1986 and also holds a Texas Secondary Teaching Certificate for English, Spanish, and English as a Second Language. She has been involved in adult education for over 20 years, serving as an instructor, technology coordinator, and coordinator. Currently the Coordinator for Texas Central GREAT (Getting Results Educating Adults in Texas), Ms. Guckert develops, implements and coordinates professional development for adult education administrators, teacher trainers, teachers and teacher assistants. Central GREAT is housed at The Education Institute, College of Education, Texas State University - San Marcos.

Delegate-at-Large, Intensive English Programs — Mimi Parris
Mimi Parris holds an MA in Foreign Language Education and taught German, Spanish and ESL for thirty years in public high schools before beginning a second career in IEP in 2006. She served as a Fulbright exchange teacher in Germany, after which she organized ten high school student exchanges to Munich. She has been actively involved in German AP: fifteen years as an AP Reader; ten years as an AP teacher-trainer all over the U.S.; and four years as a member of the National German Test Development Committee with the College Board. Mimi has co-authored two College Board publications about teaching AP German and she also co-authored the Fulbright Korea Proficiency Test for Writing and Speaking (2007) for Korean ninth-graders. She is currently the Academic Coordinator and an ESL instructor at the Texas Intensive English Program (TIEP) in Austin. At TIEP, Mimi has also trained teachers from Korea, Japan, India, Chile and Argentina.

Delegate-at-Large, Higher Education — Veronica Sardegna
Veronica G. Sardegna is an Assistant Professor at The University of Texas at Austin. She has taught English abroad and in the U.S. for more than twenty years. She is currently teaching courses on methodology, English pronunciation, culture, and second language acquisition for the MA and doctoral programs in Foreign Language Education at the University of Texas. Her research focuses on learner autonomy and language learning strategies. Her most recent publication is The Practiced Business Writer: An ESL/EFL Handbook (2009), published by Briefings Media Group

Webmaster (Consultant) — Nancy Meredith
Nancy Meredith is an ESL instructor and mentor in the Adult Education Department of Austin Community College. She holds an MA in Foreign Language Education from the University of Texas at Austin, an MA in speech from Northwestern University, a BA with Honors from the University of Texas at Austin, Texas 6–12 certification in English Language Arts with an ESL Endorsement, and a Texas Adult Education Teacher Credential. She is currently studying in the PhD program in Foreign Language Education at the University of Texas at Austin.
